My goal for every student who enters my gymnasium is to become a physically educated person!
My name...is Megan deCardenas and I am the MoCI adapted physical education teacher for the WCS center based MoCI program. This is my 14th year working for WCS and my 5th year in this position. I work only with the MoCI program; providing daily, quality physical education to grades PK-12th.
Background...includes a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology and a Michigan Professional Certificate in K-12 Physical Education from Michigan State University~GO GREEN~and a Master's Degree in K-12 Physical Education & Adapted Physical Education from Saginaw Valley. I am also a certified yoga teacher; having gone through yoga teacher training in 2009 from The Yoga Shelter.
The program...I am looking forward to being a part of your child's educational team and I am excited to provide a quality and relevant physical education experience. My job is to facilitate your child's motor development through physical education with an emphasis on safety and success. Throughout the year we will be working on a variety of activities; many that will create the foundation for instilling lifelong healthy habits in your child. I believe that given the right tools, adaptations and motivation, every person can live a healthy lifestyle!

Our bowling unit: body bowling, fowling and scooter bowling!
Together Everyone Achieves More at Carleton Middle school!
8th grade students from a Fitness for Life class volunteered to act as peer coaches to our 6, 7, and 8th grade MoCI students in the gym! We had a great week getting to know our new friends and playing badminton together. We love our T.E.A.M. Thursdays and Fridays in P.E. class!
Pumpkin bowling in Action.....
Football and Golfing and Throwing....Oh MY!
Fall has been fabulous in our MoCI gymnasiums! Secondary students have played soccer, football, t-ball and golf! They've also worked very hard during Fitness Testing week! Elementary students have been working on balance, different ways to move, overhand throwing and catching. We loved making a spooky spider web by throwing a ball of yarn!
2019 special olympics Macomb county area games
Speed stack racing relays at cousino high school!
Speed stacking cups are light weight cups that are used to stack up and down in designated patterns with the intention of doing it the fastest! Speed stacking is a fun activity that has many benefits! It can improve hand-eye coordination, ambidexterity, and recognizing patterns. It also activates both sides of the brain while crossing the mid-line of the body.
Scooter Hockey!
To end their hockey unit, Carleton students participated in a fun game of scooter hockey. Pickle ball paddles were used in lieu of sticks to provide students with a larger surface area to hit the ball into the goal and score! Some of our 8th grade Fitness for Life friends even came to play with us. It was a great lower body and core workout!
New Rock climbing wall at black elementary!

workout wednesday at carleton middle school = parachute fun!
DID YOU KNOW..........
The beloved parachute from our days in elementary phys. ed class is actually a total body workout! Not only does it exercise the arms, shoulders and back but also the leg muscles. When done with vigor, it becomes a low impact cardio workout! It teaches cooperation, turn-taking and teamwork to accomplish a shared goal. The parachute can also refine perceptual skills and help develop a sense of rhythm~!
Not to mention....it's just FUN!
